Montgomery business owner charts nontraditional path to success

Every time a new shipment arrives at Kaden New’s “The Treasure Box” store it’s full of mystery.
New, 19, opened a storefront location for his business, “The Treasure Box,” earlier this year and the venture has quickly taken off for the young man still in his teens.
For his store at 15917 Texas 105 between Conroe and Montgomery, he orders truck loads of overstock goods from Amazon. Right now new shipments come every two weeks but ideally, he’d like to have shipments once a week.
“The goods are shipped by the pallet and a full truckload is 26 pallets. Within the pallets are a few thousands smaller items,” he said.
And because he orders general pallets, it’s always a fun mystery to see what fun surprises arrive with each shipment.
The pallet contents can be anything from fidgets, planners and small toys to devices like air pods, tablets and computers — those go fast of course.
And New is just getting started in growing his business venture in nontraditional ways.
New moved to the Montgomery area when he was in the 9th grade.
Before he moved here, he was a part of a program where he could obtain his high school degree and associate’s degree at the same time. He couldn’t find a similar program here, so he joined an online high school which gave him more time to pursue his business ventures.
He ended up graduating from the online high school.
New began his business with Ecommerce by buying and selling of goods or services on the internet when he was still in high school classes. He began looking at the top sellers of what was selling in general categories.
He purchased the goods through an overseas vendor and they were sent to him though an Amazon fulfillment network. Doing this business eventually brought him to creating a storefront — The Treasure Box. His first location opened up downstairs in the same building. He outgrew that space in a month and a half and moved to a location upstairs in March. Now he uses the former space to run the online business.
The Treasure Box is open Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.
Customers are welcomed in and then can search through large bins for whatever items fit their fancy.
There’s a flat rate depending on the day of the week. Fridays — their busiest days when bigger items are available are $10. Saturdays are are $6, Sundays $4 and Wednesdays $2.
He’s also created a mystery box for $25. New and his employees put together a box of contents which are unknown to the buyer. New guarantees that the value is greater than the price of the box.
On Fridays, for anyone who spends $100 or buys 10 items for $10, they get a free mini mystery box.
When New isn’t at The Treasure Box he’s dabbling in real estate.
He’s learning the whole sale real estate business and appreciates the freedom and rewards it provides.
It doesn’t always come up in initial conversations, but when they do find out that New is only 19, they’re shocked he said.
He credits his supportive family with his success.
“It’s my supportive family that has allowed me to take a nontraditional approach to things,” he said.
He’d like to expand the business to other stores and operators. He’s working on opening a Treasure Box location in Conroe soon.
